Confirmed -- Kelley dropping out of gubernatorial race

The gubernatorial rumor mill is churning away -- I've just received word that one of the DFL candidates may be dropping their bid.

More word if confirmation one way or the other comes through.

Update: Confirmed: Steve Kelley is dropping out of the DFL gubernatorial race. It's personally disappointing for me because I love Steve as a person and as a leader, but he just couldn't garner the kind of traction he got in the 2006 race. With just over 4% on Tuesday's preference ballot, he didn't have a ton of room to move or a lot of chits to cash in with other candidates at the convention, if he could get many delegates at all.

Oy.

Kelley still has plenty to offer Minnesota on a variety of issues, and I personally hope he'll stay close to the race and to politics in general.

That is a shame. I was a delegate for Steve.... (0.00 / 0)
.....at the 2006 Convention. I personally feel we should be discussing his re-election for Governor in 2010 ;-) (or in the very least his re-election as Attorney General!). I hope he gets a job in the next DFL governor's administration.

I voted for Marty at the caucus, but Kelley was on my short list.

I was really impressed at a lot of Kelley's answers he gave at the reNEM.mn interview. He presented some novel ideas around education and just seemed like a genuine and likeable guy.

On the plus side, with his dropping out, we can now say that every DFL candidate for governor would sign the MN Health Plan into law :)

This is true, based on our recent survey -
http://www.muhcc.org/gov-survey - Thank you for pointing this out Jesse!

We still hope Steve Kelley will remain a strong voice during this campaign cycle and we of course hope the remaining candidates will continue to support the MN Health Plan (whether they're on the campaign trail or at the Capitol).
