Steve Drazkowksi proposes logging in our state parks to raise revenue

Like most Republicans, Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) would never vote to raise taxes.  So they're coming up with all kinds of idiotic ideas to balance the budget.  He has no problem if the counties and cities jack up your property taxes because he voted to slash Local Government Aid (LGA).  He has no problems endangering the poor, elderly and mentally ill by slashing social programs if it means he won't have to raise taxes on the richest 5% (and don't forget they pay a lower percentage than we do).

In other words, he doesn't care who he hurts in the Republican quest for an all cuts budget.

But who envisioned Drazkowski would get this stupid:

During a committee session Wednesday night, for example, Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Wabasha, proposed that the state start logging operations in at least a few state parks as a money-raising idea.

Remarkably, his bill passed through committee on a straight party-line vote.

The stupid, it hurts.  Make it stop.

Not only dumb but another attack on the North (0.00 / 0)
Harvesting trees like black walnut that take decades to grow and grow only under the right circumstances is just plain foolish. But let's look at the big picture. What the so-called party of job creation is proposing to do is turn the DNR into competition for private loggers. I guess stealing our property tax revenue and our economic development fund isn't enough. Now they want to attack our struggling timber industry as well.

The future means nothing to these clowns. (0.00 / 0)
There vision stretches for about five minutes. The loss of an old growth forest is not fathomable to these folks.

As a side note, I heard a very interesting, and duh, perspective on the debt we carry as a country.

We are about 40% debt to GDP. It'd be great if it were less, of course. However, let's use the old how we run our home finances analogy. ( A stupid analogy, of course, but Republicans love these simple analogies).

If you owe more on your house/cars than you make in a year(most of us), then you are over 100% debt to household GDP. So, the U.S. at 40% debt to GDP ratio is better than most households, and we don't consider ourselves irresponsible.

How Sad (0.00 / 0)
What a sad state we are in - and it seems it will only get worse.  So many people vote without realizing what their vote means to the future of our state and our country - at least I hope that is the case.

The scary part (0.00 / 0)
Unlike many of their loathsome proposals, this can't be rolled back once it happens.Either the parks will be destroyed, or we'll have to pay exorbitant prices to get them back. I also assume they'll be sold to cronies at sweetheart prices.
