Gay rights activists glitter-bombed Michele Bachmann's family counseling center Thursday, just a month after the Republican presidential candidate was targeted herself.
These activists don't seem to realize they may be helping the Bachmanns when they do stuff like this. They don't seem to understand middle America or the independent voters. Or the evangelical conservatives that made Michele (the nut, liar, and bigot) into a presidential candidate.
I guess they think that what those constituencies believe, doesn't matter. That's too bad, because actually it matters very much. (Whether it should or shouldn't, it matters on election day.) Given the nature of the Bachmanns' access to the media, you can create tremendous sympathy for them by pulling these kind of stunts. People who understand that the Bachmanns are not only homophobes but something even worse: realize that it's stupid to engage in protest tactics that can actually end up helping the Bachmanns with vital constituencies.
There are lots of very effective tactics these protesters could do instead, to stop "the Bachmann way" from becoming "the way," public policy. Those other, more effective tactics can diminish rather than enhance support for Bachmann's homophobic politics. But they aren't as much fun and they won't get your picture in the paper.
